The Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club has a long and rich history of Yacht Racing.  From its inception in 1953 MPYC has been sponsoring yacht races on the Monterey bay for both MPYC members and racers from other clubs.  At present the Club sponsors over 100 races a year from the favorite Wednesday night "beer Can" races to the 100KM Spinnaker Cup from San Francisco to Monterey and everything in between.  The club has an excellent history hosting National and regional regattas and a very active and successful Junior and Summer Sailing programs consisting of both educational and competitive events.

The Spinnaker Cup starts in San Francisco Bay at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday May 27, 2017, sending the racers out under the Golden Gate Bridge to Monterey. The fleet will finish the race as early as Saturday evening and on to the wee hours of Sunday. An evening reception on Sunday will kick off the second leg of the CORW, The Coastal Cup, which will start in Monterey on Monday, May 29th, and end in Santa Barbara. The final leg, The SoCal 300, from Santa Barbara to Sand Diego completes the CORW.

The 52nd Shields National Championship Regatta, last held in Monterey in 1984!, was held September 28 – October 1, 2016.  More information about this event is available on their web site.

The size and participation in the Victoria fleet is building quickly, primarily because buying and maintaining a boat is extremely inexpensive and you are -almost- guaranteed to not get wet during the race.
