This Saturday night, November 12th the Juniors will be hosting a Harvest Dinner and Auction. Organize your friends to pool your money to bid on the premier auction item, a day on the SF Bay for 8 people aboard a custom Andrews 56, "Delicate Balance".
The fundraiser is sponsored by the Monterey Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation (contributions are tax deductible) and is hosted by the MPYC. So put together a syndicate of sailing friends and bid on this "once in a lifetime" opportunity to sail on DB!! You don't have to be present to bid — just let Jerry Stratton know the amount that you are willing to bid and we'll take care of the rest!!
Doug and Sydney Storkovich, MPYC members from the SF Bay Area, have generously donated a "Day on the Bay aboard Delicate Balance" for eight lucky sailors. Delicate Balance is one of only seven Andrews 56 custom racing sailboats. You and your group will sail the SF Bay for the day, along with Doug and Sydney. Doug has set a minimum bid for this one-time experience aboard DB at $2,500. It is a great value when you compare it to the cost of a charter of any boat this size — and a particularly good deal when the proceeds go to such a good cause. So call your buddies and get them to pony up some bucks for the junior sailors, and enjoy a day aboard DB as an added bonus!!!
The winning bidders will meet the boat at the Marina Yacht Harbor in Richmond at 10 in the morning, where and Doug and Sydney will provide you coffee and breakfast. Simply decide where you want to sail in the greater SF Bay, and off you go!! For those who know their way around a large sailboat, Doug encourages participation from working the jib sheets to trimming the main and spinnaker and, of course, driving. For those who don't want to work so hard, you can enjoy the ride and the scenery and not lift a finger, except to hoist a beer if you like. With the stiff breezes of the bay, DB charges through the water with amazing helm control and nimbleness — not to mention the great speed! A truly fun experience!! Doug and Sydney also include beverages and yummy lunch during your day aboard DB.
The prior year’s winners — Bob and Nina Dunaven, Jim and Emma Paoletti, Carl and Mary Schumacher, and Don and Bridget Hoover (substituted by Rick Smith and Cheryl Peterson) — had an amazing day aboard DB early last month. The sky was a bit overcast, but the wind was more than adequate to be overpowered from time to time even with the #3 jib. Great fun!! We sailed to Angel Island, then through Raccoon Straits to Sausalito; we motor-sailed in the protected waters (Dunaven ran aground) of Sausalito while we ate lunch. Then back out into the bay across the slot, along the city front, finishing up with a fun spinnaker run back towards Richmond. All the while, meandering around as we enjoyed the boat, the scenery and the company of Doug and Sydney. It was a fantastic day on a great boat with good friends — all for a good cause!!!
To round out the day, we all stayed at the historic Hotel Mac in the heart of Old Town Richmond. We had dinner at the Mac Restaurant located in the hotel (great food and service) and were lucky enough to be there when they were celebrating a 50% discount on their entire wine selection (Jerry, eat your heart out!).
Remember, you need not be present to bid — let Jerry Stratton know the amount you want to bid and we'll make sure you have your chance. So, bid high — you don't want to miss out on this opportunity!!!! Good Luck!!
