Renowned US Sailing Safety at Sea expert Chuck Hawley will conduct a safety at sea seminar at MPYC on 28 September on the use and proper maintenance of inflatable PFDs. The seminar will run from 0900 to approximately 1pm, and will also feature a discussion with long time MPYC members on best practices with inflatable PFDs. Seminar participants will be offered an opportunity to check the safety features of their PFDs, and review how to repack and recharge their own units. The seminar will conclude with an in-water test of each PFD allowing participants the opportunity to test their own equipment, experience first hand what it feels like when a PFD inflates in the water, and how to install the recharging kits. Large tubs filled with water will be available for those who do not wish to jump off the club’s dock! Several safety measures, including LifeSlings and rafts would be available to assist the jumpers get back on the dock. Each participant is required to bring one recharging kit for his/her own PFD to replace the spent cartridges after the in-water exercise. To warm up the cold rescued swimmers, Dylan promised to prepare a large pot of hot soup, and the Bear Flag bar will be open following the conclusion of the seminar.
Come and join us and learn more about your PDF, and safety at sea in general while having fun at the same time! To ensure hands-on training and examination of individual PFDs, participation would be limited to a maximum of 30 persons. Registration cost is $15 per person and is available at https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta_id=19725. Depending on interest, a similar seminar might be offered later this year, or early in 2020. For more information on the registration process please contact Jean du Preez at email@example.com. Detailed information on the program and what to bring will be provided to all registered participants.
